          Welcome to a place where there is fun after fifty (and before) for women of all walks of life. We believe silliness is the comedy relief of life and, since we are all in it together, we might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together. Underneath the frivolity, we share a bond of affection, forged by common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes us next.     

          The Royal Jewels of Élan is one of over 100,000 chapter’s world wide of the Red Hat Society. We are listed as an Edmonds, WA chapter but our membership spans a large portion of western Washington.

 
          The Red Hat Society began as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with verve, humor and élan. We believe silliness is the comedic relief of life, and since we are all in it together, we might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together.           We are often referred to as a “disorganization” of women of a “certain” age. For the most part we are over 50 – this entitles us to wear the Purple and Red as described in the popular poem entitled "Warning" by Jenny Joseph.  Those who share our enthusiasm for fun and celebrating growing older but are not yet 50 can, of course, join our chapter but are asked to wear Lavender and Pink until they are officially of that “certain” age.
